Engineering and Science Admissions Test

The Engineering and Science Admissions Test (ESAT) is a computer-based assessment introduced in 2024 for applicants to specific courses at the University of Cambridge and Imperial College London. It evaluates candidates’ proficiency in mathematics and core sciences, including physics, chemistry, and biology.

The ESAT is administered by UAT-UK (University Admissions Testing UK) in collaboration with Pearson VUE for global delivery, not directly by Cambridge Assessment

Who Should Take the ESAT?

The ESAT is intended for:

Class 11 or 12 students (or equivalent) aiming to apply for engineering courses at elite UK institutions such as Cambridge.
IB, A-Level, ISC, CBSE or equivalent curriculum students with strong mathematical and scientific aptitude.
Applicants targeting programs in Engineering, Natural Sciences (Physical), or closely related fields like Physics or Computer Science.
Students who want to demonstrate subject readiness beyond grades and school curriculum.

Universities use ESAT results to assess a candidate’s ability to handle the rigors of engineering studies. It evaluates subject-specific knowledge and critical thinking skills that are directly relevant to the course. AtEthos Education, we assist students with focused preparation—starting with diagnostic tests, subject alignment, skill-building exercises, and mock simulations—ensuring you perform at your best on test day.

The ESAT follows amodular format, with students required to takeup to three sections depending on the course and college requirements. All modules are based on high school-level syllabi and are designed to evaluate core scientific and mathematical understanding.

ESAT 2025 Structure Overview
Module Who takes this module? Content Duration
Mathematics 1 All candidates take this module. 27 multiple-choice questions 40 minutes
Biology
Chemistry
Physics
Mathematics 2
Most candidates will take two of these modules. Some courses will specify which modules you must take, so you should carefully check the university webpages for your chosen course(s). 27 multiple-choice questions in each module. 40 minutes for each module.

Total Modules Required :  Varies by course/university (e.g., Cambridge typically requires Maths 1 + Physics + either Maths 2 or Advanced Maths)

Syllabus Breakdown

Here’s a high-level breakdown of key topics across major ESAT modules:

Mathematics 1 & 2

Number Systems, Indices, Surds
Algebraic Expressions & Equations
Functions and Graphs
Trigonometry & Geometry
Calculus – Differentiation & Integration
Probability & Statistics
Physics

Mechanics: Kinematics, Dynamics, Work, Power, Energy
Electricity & Magnetism

Organic Chemistry Basics

AtEthos, our ESAT-specific modules go beyond theory—focusing on timed practice, concept application, and logic-based questioning patterns used by UK exam boards.

Registration for the ESAT is handled by theCambridge Assessment Admissions Testing service in coordination with authorized test centers worldwide. Indian students can register through their school if it is a Cambridge-authorized center or through independent testing centers.

Step By Step Registration Process for ESAT

Create a UAT-UK (Pearson VUE) online account

Start by registering via the UAT-UK website. Provide your personal details and receive a confirmation email and candidate ID within ~24 hours
